We are shining our alumni spotlight on Erika Roderick from Alexandria, Minnesota. This is the second time the spotlight has shone on Erika as she was in the student spotlight in May of 2016 while taking piano lessons at Diane Alveshere Studios. The MusicLink Foundation donated a keyboard to Erika which allowed her to continue playing when she otherwise would not have been able to. Erika is currently a sophomore at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities studying Human Physiology and Psychology on a pre-med track; she aspires to become a physician in women's health. Erika currently works as a behavior therapist for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, where she bonds with many of the children through piano music.
This past summer she was an Activities Volunteer at the Kinnic Rehabilitation Center in River Falls, Wisconsin, where she was able to play the piano for the residents. As playing relaxes her and brings her joy, Erika spends much of her free time at the piano. She hopes to continue to share her love for music through opportunities such as volunteering, work, or potentially even church services. Music was a huge part of her childhood, and over the years it has given her a way to express herself and connect with those around her. Because of the kindness and support she received from the MusicLink Foundation and from her wonderful piano teacher Diane Alveshere, Erika has been able to pursue and share her passion for music.
