This year’s MusicLink Senior Award of Excellence goes to Katherine Josiah of Lynwood, WA. Katherine has studied music for eight years, including flute with Robin Peery and piano with Anna Jeanne Flesner. She describes her love of the sound of the flute and how she immersed herself in various musical ensembles through high school years. Katherine was first chair in Symphonic Orchestra and a member of the Wind Symphony and Philharmonic Full Orchestra as well as a member of the Cascade Youth Symphony in her community. Private flute lessons through MusicLink played a large role in developing her confidence to become technically precise as a musician. She explains that “not only have I enjoyed playing the flute, guitar, and piano, but I love to sing, and go caroling with my Tri-M Club during Christmas time.
Katherine will major in Biochemistry in college, planning to pursue a future in medical research. She states: I am determined to learn more about new medical advancements and how AI systems and medical research can make a difference in diagnoses and treatments of illnesses.
